Wheels for a big crane camera

Big shot camera cranes are mainly used on film sets and shoots on location or in studios. Depending on the application of the camera crane, different wheels are suitable. For example, wheels for on a track or rails, irregular terrain or very intensive use.

Wheels for on a track or rail

When the camera crane is used on a rail or track, flange wheels are used. These are usually made of cast steel or iron. In addition, polyurethane rollers are also used. These wheels are wear-resistant, offer smooth running and are reasonably quiet.

If the crane camera is used on rails, the flange wheels can also be made of lightweight cast nylon. These flange wheels offer a very high load capacity, are wear resistant and resistant to bumps and drops. This while being a lot lighter than the traditional cast iron version. This offers great advantages when filming on location.

Wheels for irregular terrain

If the big camera crane is used on irregular terrain, Vlukon pneumatic tires are very suitable. Often 4.00×8 or 3.00×10 tires are used. These are used in particular for the larger big camera cranes with a telescopic arm. These setups require a higher load capacity because more counterweight is used.

For use on a regular surface, elastic rubber wheels with a diameter of 200 or 250mm are used. These are mounted on a lightweight aluminum rim with double ball bearings. For on location filming, it is important that the wheels are robust, have a high load capacity, but are still lightweight. These wheels offer very smooth running over hard surfaces such as pavement. These wheels are particularly suitable for the smaller big crane and cameras.

For very intensive use, Vulkollan® rollers are best suited. In our article on Vulkollan® we explain the properties of this material.

Custom

For your application

When a wheel is not in our range and also not in the standard range of our suppliers, customization is an option. It may be that you are not satisfied with the current wheels. For example, you want to innovate or produce more cheaply. We apply customization especially when there is a specific demand for functionality. Are you, for example, looking for wheels for a track or rails, on irregular terrain or for very intensive use? If so, we will be happy to help you find a suitable solution.

From inventory to suitable solution

We determine the situation in which the big crane cameras will be used and then find or design the most suitable wheels for this. It can also happen that you run into a particular problem. For example, do the wheels break down or wear out too quickly? Or are the current wheels too expensive for the application? Konijnenburg can provide you with an economical solution without having to compromise on quality and durability. This doesn’t always require a new design process. The solution can also be volume import or specialized import. Customization does not always have to be about large volumes. Even if you only need two or three pieces of a certain wheel, customization is an option.
