Wheels for settling tanks

In a settling tank, the wheels are mounted to the reaming bridge that runs over the concrete circulation edge of the settling tank. The front wheel attached to the reaming bridge is a drive wheel with keyway. Behind it are one or more travel wheels with ball bearings. Because the wheels constantly roll over the concrete, the wheels must be very wear-resistant. This means that not all types of wheels are suitable for this application. At Konijnenburg you will find also for this application suitable wheels. For example, we have wheels with Vulkollan tire and cast polyamide in our assortment.

Wheels with Vulkollan® tire

For settling tanks mainly wheels with Vulkollan® tires are applied. Vulkollan® has exceptionally good wear resistance and has up to 2 times less volume loss through abrasion than natural rubber. This makes Vulkollan® wheels suitable for use at a settling tank. At the same time, this material ensures that the concrete edge is not damaged. This would be the case, for example, with all-steel wheels.

Cast polyamide wheels

Also increasingly used are wheels made of all-cast polyamide. This material provides a cost advantage and less wear on the wheels. The cast polyamide wheels do not always have enough grip on the concrete top layer of the circulation edge. This causes the wheels to slip. As a result, cast polyamide wheels are not always suitable as drive wheels.  They are better suited as coasting wheels. The sizes 450mm, 500mm, 550mm and 600mm are usually used.

Custom

For your settling tank

If a wheel is not in our range and also not in the standard range of our suppliers, customization is an option. It could be that you are not satisfied with the current wheels of your settling tank. For example, you want to innovate or produce more cheaply. Do the wheels of the sedimentation tank break down quickly, for example? Then we would like to help you find an alternative. It is also possible to adapt wheels that we already have in stock to your requirements.

From inventory to suitable solution

We look with you at which wheels are the most suitable for use with the sedimentation tank and how the wheels are used. What is the top layer of the circulation belt made of? Do the wheels serve as a drive wheel or a coasting wheel? We also look at the problem. Are the wheels breaking down or wearing out too fast? To find out what could be causing this, we ask you to send us samples of what has broken down. Based on our findings we will look for a customized solution.

Of course it can also happen that the current wheels you use for the settling tank are too expensive. Konijnenburg can provide an economical solution without having to compromise on quality and durability. This does not always involve a new design process. The solution can also be volume import or specialized import. Customization does not always have to be about large volumes. Even if you only need two or three pieces of a certain wheel, customization is an option.

Preservation of wheels

To preserve the wheels, the following additional treatments are possible:

  • Addition of STABAXOL to the tire formulation: Hydrolysis is the decomposition of polyurethanes by contact with (hot) water. In warm and humid environments, hydrolysis degradation can be delayed by adding STABAXOL to the Vulkollan®.
  • Addition of EP + Colturite
  • Antirust treatment

Urgent delivery for WWTPs

26 water boards manage 352 sewage treatment plants in the Netherlands. For a WWTP, planning maintenance is very important. The sedimentation tank must be emptied completely. This must be taken into account in the capacity of the WWTP. During the planned maintenance, all maintenance parties must be able to get to work very quickly. The wheels must therefore be ordered in good time. With Vulkollan® it has happened in the past that delivery times run up to 20 weeks. Konijnenburg regularly had to deliver wheels urgently because other parties could not deliver in time.
